The dusty image of the University of Tilburg is now forever changed due to their new refreshing online campaign. Together with the university of Stuttgart (Germany) and Crete (Greece) they are trying to attract new master students by a large marketing campaign evolving around the idea of an extremely large e-card. The international campaign uses the social media Facebook to lead students to the website of ‘hello world’( http://helloworld.erasmusmundus-imse.eu/#/the-worlds-greatest-e-card). Here, students can join the world’s largest e-card by placing their Facebook picture on it. A smart marketing trick to forward the campaign is the fact that size of your photo depends on to how many people you forward the link. So if you want the whole world to see your charming photograph king size – now is the time ;-)
This marketing campaign seems to have brought about quite some buzz, a lot of students have already placed their photo on the e-card and today there was even an article about it on www.nu.nl. The goal of the entire campaign was mainly to attract Service Engineering students, who seem to be very active on social media websites such as Facebook. I however wonder whether they will really attract new master students with this campaign. Facebook has millions of members which makes this medium not very specific for the target group of the campaign. I am curious to see whether the campaign will provide the University of Tilburg with more applications next year. For now; let’s just say that at least they have gotten the attention with their big international campaign.
